CAFRE has recently recruited the following two farmers to host Technology Demonstration Farm events under the Dairy Replacement Heifer Rearing theme.

Rex Wilson – Cookstown, Co. Tyrone
The Wilson family farm comprises of 180 Holstein Friesian cows, in an all year round calving system. In recent years the focus has been calving heifers into the herd at 24 months of age. This has been achieved by attention to detail in all stages of calf rearing, and monitoring performance through regular weighing. Recently the farm invested in new calf housing.
Tom Craig – Limavady, Co. Derry/Londonderry
The Craig family farm comprises of over 250 Holstein Friesian cows, in an autumn/winter calving system. As Heifer rearing is the second largest annual expense after feeding, the farm has focused on calving heifers at 24 months of age. This has been achieved by attention to detail in all stages of calf rearing, with a particular focus on calf nutrition and health.
